The Royal Navy, Royal Marines, the Ministry of Defence Police and the UK Army will use Sepura radios during Trafalgar 200, the official celebration marking the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death in action of Admiral Lord Nelson.

Trafalgar 200, the biggest public military event to be held in the UK, will take place in the city of Portsmouth and the Solent estuary from the 28 June to 3 July.

Invited by the Royal Navy, hundreds of vessels from around the world will be reviewed by HM The Queen; the six day-long celebrations will be attended by dignitaries and senior government officials from all over the world.

An event of such dimensions and importance demands extremely high and tight levels of security.

In order to secure the celebrations, the Royal Navy and Marines, the MoD Police and the Army will use Sepura mobile and hand-held TETRA GPS radios. In addition, the MoD Police will use a new marine variant of the SRM2000 mobile radio created by Sepura to meet the specific requirements of public safety personnel operating on water.

A special motorcycle variant of the SRM2000 mobile radio will also be used by officers on land.

Dave Ansell, Chief Inspector of the MoD Police, said: “We have been using Sepura terminals for three years and are extremely satisfied with their performance. In addition, we are confident that the interoperability of the terminals will enable us to provide the highest standards of security and policing required by what is to be a unique public military event in our history.”

Roger Dowling, Deputy Managing Director for Sepura, said: “At Sepura we feel privileged to contribute to the security and policing of Trafalgar 200. The creation of the marine and motorcycle variants is a tangible demonstration that Sepura not only actively listens to its customers, but also adapts its products to meet their specific needs and requirements.”
