The Norwegian Army, after extensive trials selected the Sepura SRP2000 as part of a new battlefield system, joining the growing number of Sepura's military customers around the world.

The SRP2000 was selected because of its lightweight robust design, and subsequently, during battlefield testing, the SRP2000 was run over by an Army vehicle, and the terminal continued to operate.

This is the first time that the Norwegian Army has developed a system using commercial off the shelf (COTS) equipment. The advantages of using COTS equipment to deploy battlefield systems include lower costs, and quicker time to market. However it is important that equipment can meet the tough conditions that the battlefield can present, such as dust, heat and humidity.

The TETRA infrastructure was provided by Siemens, with Sepura supplying the SRP2000 terminals.

Captain Odd Erik Kallokken of the Norwegian Army Signals said: "It is extremely important in a battlefield situation that our soldiers have reliable and robust equipment. We evaluated a number of different terminals and the SRP2000 proved to be the best product for our highly challenging environment. We were particularly impressed that the product is lightweight yet still tough and reliable."

Jens Thostrup, International Sales Director, added: "Sepura designed the SRP2000 to perform superbly, even in extreme battlefield conditions. It is a measure of the quality of our engineering and manufacturing that the product survives such harsh treatment."
