Air France selects sGPS for CDG Airport

Sepura announces today that Air France has chosen Sepura TETRA terminals for Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in Paris, the biggest airport in France and the first to deploy a TETRA network.

This prestigious contract was won in conjunction with Simoco France, Sepura’s longstanding French partner.

Airlines have very specific operational requirements of a radio system, especially on large airfields. Their ideal system would allow them to see exactly where their ground resources are, allow them to match these resources to aircraft, and assign them dynamically.

In this way, they reduce aircraft turnaround time and, most importantly, improve passenger service and safety. Sepura has developed special functionality in its v5.0 software release for its TETRA terminals which provides a bespoke communications solution for airport users.

This solution meets Air France’s particular requirements and will now be demonstrated to airport customers around the world.

Sepura’s latest software integrates seamlessly with existing airport systems; when teams are assigned to a flight, this data is converted into dynamic groups by the flight management computer.

Sepura TETRA terminals have a simple interface enabling users to connect instantaneously with all teams assigned to a specific flight. Sepura will supply Air France with SRP2000 sGPS handportables and SRM2000 mobiles.

Location information is key to Air France and Sepura’s SRP2000 sGPS provides accurate fixes throughout the airport, even close to aircraft and in maintenance hangars.

Richard Duggan, President of Simoco France, said: “Since the inception of the collaboration between Air France and Sepura some two years ago, we have come to appreciate the wide range of skills and knowledge existing within airlines, the importance of business efficiency and their over-riding need to keep costs under control.”

“We are confident that Sepura radios will be an invaluable business and communications tool for Air France.”
