Oman national oil company chooses Sepura

Petroleum Development Oman, the state-led national hydrocarbon exploration and production company, has selected Sepura radios to operate on its proprietary TETRA Network.

Following a thorough technical evaluation and extensive trials in a harsh environment, Sepura SRM2000 mobile radios were the obvious choice for Petroleum Development Oman.

In the challenging environment of Oman, it is vital that communications links are guaranteed: climatic variations can be very extreme and operational staff may be many kilometres from the nearest TETRA base station.

The contract was won in conjunction with Zelda, Sepura’s longstanding partner in Oman. A key factor in the winning of this order was the expertise and skilled support supplied by Zelda’s staff working alongside the users at their remote sites.

The SRM2000 is the leading in-vehicle mobile terminal and provides secure voice and data communications. The built-in GPS capabilities allow control rooms to manage resources more effectively and with its 10W output power it provides a better network coverage than any other TETRA terminal.

Jens Thostrup, International Sales Director of Sepura, said: “This prestigious win confirms that Sepura radios are the ideal communications tool for workers in the utilities sector.”

“In addition, Oman is a key market for Sepura and we have worked closely with Zelda to ensure that all users of our radios are provided with first class support’. About PDO Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is the major exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman.”

“It accounts for about 90% of the country's crude-oil production and nearly all of its natural-gas supply. The Company is owned by the Government of Oman (which has a 60% interest), the Royal Dutch/Shell Group (which has a 34% interest), Total (which has a 4% interest) and Partex (which has a 2% interest).”
